Lent Day 19 Persecution

A Spiritual Journey towards faith in Jesus Christ for Children

Day 19 - Persecution
Family Scripture Reading: Matthew 10:16-31

Family Discussion Starters:

Jesus is warning His disciples in this passage about persecution.  What are some of the things Jesus says will happen?
(They will be handed over to the authorities and beaten/flogged. They will witness to governors and kings.  Family members will turn against one another because of their belief in Jesus Christ. This still happens today.)

Americans enjoy the luxury of practicing their faith in peace. Their rights are protected under the First Amendment of the Constitution. However, many countries around the world do not allow people to worship Jesus. People who do are put in prison and sometimes killed for their belief.

What does Jesus say about persecution?
("Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell." Matt 10:28)

"Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven." Matt 10:32-33
