Lent Day 28 Choose Your Words Wisely

A Spiritual Journey towards faith in Jesus Christ for Children

Day 28 - Choose Your Words Wisely
Family Scripture Reading: Matthew 15:1-20

Family Discussion Starters:

What is Jesus accusing the Pharisees of doing?
(Jesus said the Pharisees were hypocrites. This means saying one thing but doing another. They were telling their people to honor their mother and father but they were not doing the same.)

Jesus quoted Isaiah in vs. 8 & 9.
What did Isaiah prophesy about the Pharisees?
(Reread this passage to your children.  The Pharisees were putting more emphasis on the laws then they were on loving God and doing things to please Him and bring Him honor and glory. Their hearts were far from God.)

What does Jesus say is so important about the words we use?
(The things we say reveal what is in our hearts. Words can build people up or tear them down. We should be very careful about the words we use.)

How do you feel when someone says something nice about you?
How about when they say something mean?
Can you tell about a person from their words?

"But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken." Matthew 12:36

"But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them." Matthew 15:18
