T2W Mentor Mom's Soul Spa Retreat

T2W Mentor Mom's Soul Spa Retreat

Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, take a quick moment to pause and meditate on this verse:

"He says, 'Be still and know that I Am God.'" Psalm 46:10

Sweet Sister, Be Still! Even if you are driving and the kids are screaming in the back seat, you can Be Still and Know that HE is God. You are in the presence of the KING of KINGS!

Take a moment to acknowledge that He is ALWAYS with you. Imagine He is sitting right next to you. Can you feel His presence?

We can't see Him, and sadly many times don't even think about Him; but He is there and He will never forsake you and never leave you.

The first step in teaching our children about Him is for us moms to have a thriving relationship with God our Father, Jesus our Savior and the Holy Spirit who dwells within every believer. Take those precious moments with Him.

If you do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and want to know more please talk with your pastor or a trusted sister in Christ.

Enjoy your intimate retreat with Him,
In His Name,
Carri Pratt

Why Our Children Desperately Need Spiritual Training

Why Our Children Desperately Need Spiritual Training

Carri Pratt

In her book "The Spiritual Child" Lisa Miller, PhD. has found that spiritual development:

  • Is Crucial for Reducing the Risk of Suicide, Depression & Substance Abuse
  • Is Critical for Overall Health
  • Prepares our Children for Identity Development
  • Provides Emotional Resilience
  • Gives our Children an Inner Compass
  • Allows them to Understand Their Unique Purpose and Connection in this life
She states, "The absence of support for children's spiritual growth has contributed to alarming rates of childhood and adolescent emotional suffering and behaviors that put them at risk."

Society is discovering what God has planned and shared in His Scripture:

"The Lord our God, the Lord is one.  Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates.” Deuteronomy 6:4-9

My prayer is that as Moms we would open our eyes, hearts and minds to the amazing impact we can have on the lives of our children and then dedicate our time and talents to doing so, In Jesus Name, Amen.

Who is the Holy Spirit? Week 4

T2W Mentor Moms sharing Spiritual Truth with our Children
Week 4: Gifts of the Holy Spirit
Carri Pratt

"There are different kinds of gifts. But they are all given to believers
by the same Spirit. . . There are different ways the Spirit works.
But the same God is working in all these ways and in all people."
1 Corinthians 12:4-6

In his first letter to the Church at Corinth, Paul states, "Brothers and Sisters, I want you to know about the gifts of the Holy Spirit." 1 Corinthians 12:1

So far we have helped our children understand that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, He is God in Spirit, believers are baptized with the Holy Spirit, He lives in all believers and gives power. The Holy Spirit was present in the Old Testament and empowered His people, revealed things to His people, was present in the New Testament, filled John the Baptist in his mother's womb, came upon Mary in the creation of the mortal body of Jesus, descended upon Jesus at His baptism, and was poured out on the believers at Pentecost.

If that is not enough, now we learn that all believers are given specific gifts by the Holy Spirit. Your children will probably want to know what gifts they will or have received!

Scripture reveals that there are many gifts of the Holy Spirit and God decides what each individual person will receive. God knows each of His children so intimately that He provides the perfect gift(s) based on what His will is for each life.

"All the gifts are produced by one and the same Spirit.
He gives gifts to each person, just as He decides."
1 Corinthians 12:11

This is huge! Our children need to understand that God created them in His image and that they are special and unique. There is no one else on the face of the earth that has the same fingerprints as them, that looks and acts exactly as them, that has the same exact ideas and desires as them, and that can fulfill the specific purpose God created them to fulfill. They are of incredible worth!

Paul discusses the different gifts in his letter,

"A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.

To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice
to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge.
The same Spirit gives great faith to another,
and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing.
He gives one person the power to perform miracles
and another the ability to prophesy
He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit.
Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages,
while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said."
1 Corinthians 12:7-10

The most important thing to keep in mind is that these gifts are given to "help each other." vs 7  Paul goes on to say that all gifts and all believers are important to the body of Christ.

"All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it."
1 Corinthians 12:27

Ask your children if he/she/they can recognize the spiritual gift God has given them. If they are not yet a believer, what gift would they want to receive from God? Why?

Ask your child what occupations might be associated with these spiritual gifts?
For example:
The ability to give wise advice: Parent, Counselor, Lawyer, Judge

Family Highlights:
  • The Holy Spirit gives Spiritual Gifts to all believers
  • God decides who gets what Spiritual Gift
  • God has a specific purpose for each life
  • Every human being has immense value
  • Every child of God has incredible worth

Who Is The Holy Spirit? Week 3

T2W Mentor Moms sharing Spiritual Truth with our Children
Week 3: Pentecost - The Arrival of the Holy Spirit
Carri Pratt

“Repent . . . and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will
receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38

Jesus promised His followers that God would send the Holy Spirit:

"If you love Me, you will keep My commands.
And I will ask the Father and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever.

He is the Spirit of truth. The world is unable to receive Him because it doesn't see Him or know Him. But you do know Him, because He remains with you and will be in you."

John 14:15-17

That promise came true on the day of Pentecost.

Scripture Reading: Acts 2:1-41

This is one of the most exciting passages in Scripture as it directly affects every person who claims Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior!

The prophet Joel told the people of the Old Testament, over 2,600 years ago,  to expect this to happen.

If your children are old enough, allow them to read this passage to you. Reading the Bible is a treasure that all parents are called upon to pass on to their children.

Click Here for an easy to use worksheet to guide your children as they explore the text for themselves. It includes probing questions and answers for a quick but meaningful time in God's word.

Family Highlights:

  • Pentecost is the day when God poured out His Holy Spirit on His people
  • Pentecost was not celebrated in the Old Testament. It began after the descent of the Holy Spirit on the disciples of Jesus after His ascension
  • Pentecost is held each year on the 7th Sunday after Easter
  • All believers can be filled with the Holy Spirit
  • The Holy Spirit is the power of God living in us!
