The Church at Ephesus: Forsaking Jesus
"You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. " Revelation 2:4-5
Today's Reading: Revelation 2:1-7
There are seven letters that go out to the seven churches
as written by Jesus. In each letter we get to see the things God likes
about the churches and the things He does not like about them. We should read
this detail very closely because it applies to our personal lives as Christians.
Those things that God/Jesus likes about the Church at Ephesus:
Deeds, Hard
work, Perseverance,
Cannot tolerate wicked people
Tested the
false apostles, Endured hardships as Christians
Have not grown weary
Those things that God/Jesus does not like:
You have
forsaken the love you had at first.
Daily Reflection: There are times in our lives when we feel on fire for
Jesus and then there are those times we just don’t. It might be due to busy-ness
or lack of interest.
Take a look at your life and see if you are
forsaking your first love. What is most important to you right now? Is it taking the
place of Jesus?
A Reward For You! Each Letter to the Churches also offers a reward to every Christian who is victorious in living as God desires His children to live.
Reward: “I will give
the victor the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of
God. Anyone who has an ear should listen to what the Spirit says to the churches." Revelation 2:7
