Ten – Priscilla
Psalm
16 – Every Woman’s Journey
By
Carri Pratt
“Therefore my heart is glad, and my tongue
rejoices;
my body also rests securely.” Psalm
16:9
Priscilla
was a joyful woman who had discovered the
secret to true happiness:
* Placing
Jesus
at the center of her life
* Honoring
God
with her home and marriage
* Relying
on the Holy Spirit to guide her
Priscilla
and her husband Aquila were expelled from Rome by the Emperor Claudius. Changes in life quite often lead to stress,
fear and anxiety. Priscilla chose to
trust in God. She and her husband
settled in Corinth and were blessed by the presence of Paul. The Bible says, “he stayed and worked with them.”
Acts 18:3.
Paul,
Priscilla and Aquila were tent makers.
One can only imagine the incredible conversations they had while sitting
together and sewing their tents. This
time of instruction provided Priscilla and Aquila with godly wisdom and enabled
them to enjoy their marriage as a partnership for ministry.
Their
calling seems to have been home ministry. They not only assisted a man by the
name of Apollos to better understand what he was preaching about Jesus, “they took him home and explained the way of God to him more accurately.”
Acts 18:26, they were also eventually
able to go back to Rome to use their home for God’s glory, “Aquila and Priscilla greet you
warmly in the Lord, and so does the church that meets in their home.” 1
Corinthians 16:19
We, as
Christian women, can learn from Priscilla’s example. No matter if we are
married, single, widowed or divorced, we should be ready to learn the truth of
God’s Word so that we can share it with others. “but honor the Messiah as Lord in your hearts.
Always be ready to give a defense to anyone who
asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you.” 1 Peter 3:15. Our homes can be a warm and inviting place for friends and family to experience
the Gospel. When we do, our “tongues
(will) rejoice” Psalm 16:9 with the sweet words of our Lord and Savior.
