T2 Women Living It Out – Katie Stewart
By Carri
Pratt
“If
you use what God has given you,
you
can change the world.” Katie Stewart
Katie
Stewart was on a family vacation in Jamaica when she felt God’s pull on her
life. She looked around at the poverty and need, and knew she had to do
something about it. Her next visit to Jamaica was not for an annual family
vacation but a family outreach.
Since that
time, Katie has been active in serving the people of Jamaica, Haiti, Brazil and
Costa Rica with an organization called IsleGo Missions. She works as an
outreach director for The ARK Angel Network, ministering to at-risk-children
around the world and participates in Bible studies, orphan care and student
scholarship programs for individuals in need. She is also a graduate of Arizona State University and the Preschool Director for St. Timothy Church in Bedford, Texas.
Katie is on
her way to Costa Rica this week to lead a team of 26 as they partner with a
Surfing Ministry known as Radical Life Ministries. This organization ministers
to the local residents, many of whom were surfers who made their way from
Nicaragua assuming great prosperity in Costa Rica only to find devastating
poverty. Many of these families now live in a hidden community of shacks off of
the river and find themselves in desperate need of resources.
Please pray
for Katie Stewart and the men, women and children of Costa Rica. Pray that
there would be much fruit for God’s Kingdom, for safe passage for Katie and her
travel companions and for the ministers and volunteers of Radical Life
Ministries.
Words of
Wisdom from Katie:
T2W: How can women
make a difference?
Katie: Know
that if God has given you a heart for something there is a place to use it. Ask
God what He wants you to do.
T2W: How do women know
if God is calling them to service?
Katie: It
is harder to grasp when you realize that it is not a request, it is a command.
Don’t make excuses. Pray about it and have faith.
T2W: What do you hear
most often from women?
Katie: 99%
of people tell me, “I would love to do something like that but I can’t afford
it.” It is so easy and temping to spend money on ourselves when there are so
many (people we don’t easily see) who struggle every day.
T2W: What can women do
for themselves and to encourage other women?
Katie:
Spend time with God, Read the Bible, Pray for God to lead you to who He wants
you to help, He will lead you. Live it out every single day. We are at a
disadvantage when we have everything we want.
Why would we need a relationship with God? Take out the “things” and
focus on God. We need to slow down and seek things that are eternal.
T2W: What is your
favorite Bible Verse?
Katie:
Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through
Christ, who strengthens me.”
