Genesis – In the Beginning
By Carri Pratt
“Abraham buried his wife Sarah in the
cave in the field of Machpelah . . . in the land of Caanan.” Genesis 23:19
It is painful to lose someone we love. Life seems to have a hole, sometimes too big to fill. It also forces us to consider that everyone dies. It is a fact of being a human being
and living on this earth.
There is an end to our time here. It is not something
pleasant to think about, but we are each given a gift of a finite number of
days. The very Good News is that Jesus has made a way for us to live for eternity with Him, and our loved ones, in Heaven.
“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the
Father except through me.” John 14:6
Time is a precious commodity, even more so than money.
A person can always earn more money, but where does one go to earn more time?
“Teach us to number our days aright,
that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Psalm 90:12
Although it is easy to get caught up in the details
of each day, the truly important questions about life are, “How am I living my
life?” and “Where am I going next?” Jesus warned His followers in many of his
parables about the importance of using their time, talents and treasures for
God. He also encouraged them to “store up for yourselves treasure in
heaven,” Matthew 6:20.
