To Have and To Hold

To Have and to Hold
Biblical Priority #2 - Marriage
by Jenn V.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NIV) 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

The world today views marriage as something that is great -- when it’s convenient for us. Just take a look at any show on TV or in the movies or even in life and you will see how the world views marriage.  Satan is on the attack ready to steal, kill and destroy, like a thief of what God holds sacred.
John 10:10 (NIV) 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

The truth is marriage is hard (but love is patient), or we talk bad to and about our spouse to others (but love is kind and is not easily angered, does not boast, it is not proud) or we look at another marriage and think that it is perfect (but love does not envy), or we think that things are not turning out how we envisioned them (but love is not self-seeking), so we look for a way out (but love does not dishonor others).

Is marriage just a piece of paper that can be easily torn up? If so then who cares? God cares! Your children care! Your true friends care! (Love always protects). We need to hold on to and cherish what we, as wives and mothers, have been given. You may be someone who has made mistakes in your marriage, like so many of us. You can rest peacefully in the fact that you can be forgiven and start fresh. God’s grace and glory can overcome all of our past, present and future mistakes. (Love always hopes) You may be someone who has been abandoned or abused and needs rescuing….talk to a reliable Christian friend or a pastor today. Please do not hesitate! (Love always trusts) God can bless and help you with whatever situation you are in. (Love always perseveres).
Proverbs 14:1 A wise woman builds her home, but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands.

CHALLENGE:
Evaluate what your attitude is toward your marriage. If you are dissatisfied and/or your marriage is on the rocks, we encourage you right now to ask God to help you find someone to talk to and pray with you.
