Genesis – In the
Beginning
Chapter 13
By Carri Pratt
“So
Lot chose the entire Jordan Valley for himself. Then Lot journeyed eastward,
and they separated from each other.”
Genesis
13:11
Abram
and Lot traveled together from Egypt and finally reached the land God had
promised to Abram. Upon surveying the land, Abram gave Lot first choice.
“Lot
looked out and saw that the entire Jordan valley as far as Zoar was
well-watered everywhere like the Lord’s garden and the land of Egypt.”
Genesis
13:10
Lot
chose the best piece of land for himself.
Abram allowed Lot this choice because he had faith that God would care
for him no matter what the circumstances.
Little did Lot realize that his
greedy decision, to have the best land, led him to move in next to some pretty
shady characters.
These
are decisions facing us today. Family disputes can cause chaos amongst all of
the family members. It might be difficult, but putting family peace above
personal desires is what God sees as a righteous choice. Many times we need to
just let it go and let God deal with it.
“I
will deal with them according to
their own conduct,
and
I will judge them by their own standards.
Then
they will know that I am Yahweh.” Ezekiel 7:27
