Lent Day 14 The Cost of Being a Christian

A Spiritual Journey towards faith in Jesus Christ for Children

Day 14 - The Cost of being a Christian
Family Scripture Reading: Matthew 8:18-27

Family Discussion Starters:

Jesus does not promise His followers prosperity. How does Jesus respond to the teacher who desires to follow Him?
(Jesus tells the teacher that He has no permanent residence. Jesus says He has "no place to lay His head." Matt 8:20 Although many Christians enjoy a blessed life, being a Christian does not guarantee a trouble free life.  On the contrary, Jesus warns us that we will face trouble, its a fact, but He also encourages us and tells us that He will be with us and give us peace.)

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.
In this world you will have trouble. But take heart!
I have overcome the world.”  John 16:33

What do you think might be a cost of being a Christian?
(Allow your children to come up with some ideas.  A few might be, losing a friend because of differing lifestyles, having courage to stand up for what is right in God's eyes, spending time reading God's word rather than playing video games, going to church on Sunday morning rather than sleeping in. There are many things that might seem "costly" to us that are actually very smart investments in an eternal future.)
