Lent Day 22 Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath

A Spiritual Journey towards faith in Jesus Christ for Children

Day 22 - Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath
Family Scripture Reading: Matthew 12:1-14

Family Discussion Starters:

What were the Pharisees accusing Jesus of?
(Working on the Sabbath day)

Which of the 10 Commandments discusses the Sabbath day?
(The 4th Commandments says, "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work" Exodus 20:8-10)

Was Jesus sinning?
(No. Matthew Henry explains this in his commentary:
"Christ shows that works of mercy are lawful and proper to be done on the Lord's day. There are more ways of doing well upon Sabbath days, than by the duties of worship: attending the sick, relieving the poor, helping those who need speedy relief, teaching the young to care for their souls; these are doing good: and these must be done from love and charity, with humility and self-denial, and shall be accepted,")

The important thing to remember is that God has specifically set aside the Sabbath as a day of rest and worship to Him. Think carefully about the kinds of things you do, watch and listen to on the Sabbath.
Do they bring glory to God?
