Genesis – In the
Beginning
By Carri Pratt
Chapter
6 – Increasing Corruption on the Earth
“The Lord
saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and
that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the
time.” Genesis 6:5
Think
about how bad it must have gotten for God to desire to wipe out all of mankind.
Jesus actually referred back to this time when He said, “As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the
coming of the Son of Man.” Matthew 24:37.
Jesus
often called Himself, “Son of Man” to
demonstrate that He was God in human flesh, “What is mankind that you are
mindful of them, a son of man that you care for him?” Hebrews 2:6
Here
the reader can put together a piece of the Old Testament from Genesis with a
piece of the New Testament from Matthew and lay them side by side. We see that
the Bible is a beautiful tapestry telling one story, the story of God’s love
and the redemption of His creation through Jesus Christ, His Son.
There
was one man, and one family, that God saw as good on the earth. “Noah
was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked
faithfully with God.” Genesis 6:9
I
have to wonder, would my family be seen as “good” or “righteous” in God’s
sight?
Kirk
Cameron has a ministry that reaches out to people who see themselves as “good”
and therefore as going to heaven. “Way of the Master” is his way of showing
people how Jesus revealed the Good News to people of His day.
There
are many videos on YouTube showing Kirk Cameron interviewing people and the
most amazing thing is to see their expressions change and sometimes even begin
to weep, when confronted with the truth of sin.
The
truth is, no one is able to be good enough to stand before a Holy God and God,
in His infinite mercy, sent His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, to die a
horrible death, to be resurrected and conquer death, so that all who call on
His name may be saved.
“If you declare
with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him
from the dead, you will be saved.”
Romans 10:9
