Scattering Seeds – Showing Love for the Homeless
By Carri Pratt
“Those
who give to the poor will lack nothing,
but
those who close their eyes to them receive many curses.”
Proverbs 28:27
My husband
works in a major city and witnesses the effects of homelessness every week.
This has
weighed heavily upon his heart to see men and women, regardless of the reason
they are there, living in a bad place and needing help just to get through
today.
These are
people who need a blessing. As a family, he has prompted us to begin purchasing
a few additional items each week at the dollar store and grocery store.
Items such
as crackers, water, tuna, juice boxes, wipes, first aid, hard candy, cough
drops, hand warmers, toilet paper, and toothbrush kits. We also include a tract
and a small cash love offering. Additional items requested have been bus passes
and hotel accommodations.
He has the
children help to organize them into piles and makes up a few backpacks full of
necessities to give to those he sees frequently around town.
We also
make small bags for the children to hand out to people holding signs for help.
This is
truly such a simple way to show God’s love for them in a deeper way, while
fulfilling their basic needs.
“By this everyone will know that you are my
disciples,
if you love one another.” John 13:35
